In these past days, our hearts have been heavy — yet filled with gratitude. As Hurricane Melissa passed through Jamaica, it left behind devastation that words can scarcely describe. Still, amid loss and uncertainty, the light of your love is shining through.

Across our Roman Catholic Diocese of Montego Bay — from St. Ann and Trelawny to St. James, Hanover, and Westmoreland — our priests, religious, and volunteers have been walking among the people, praying with families, and documenting the impact. Roads remain blocked, power is out in many communities, and homes and parish buildings have sustained serious damage.

In Westmoreland, where the storm made landfall, entire neighborhoods remain cut off. In Montego Bay, floodwaters filled streets, damaging shops and homes. Hanover and Trelawny saw roofs torn off and churches flooded. And in St. Ann, hillside villages are still waiting for assistance as communication lines are restored.

In every parish, we have seen small miracles — a neighbor sharing food, a parish hall sheltering families, a priest celebrating Mass by candlelight. These moments remind us that Christ is truly present in the compassion we show one another.
